My Town: Stockholm
Orjan Andersson’s ‘Cheap’ Tour

In Sweden, and now in the U.S., it’s nearly impossible to keep Cheap Monday jeans on the shelves. “We’ve sold 40 pairs in less than two weeks,” says Seven New York’s Joseph Quartana. A major impetus for that is the price: At $80 a pair ($50 in Europe), it doesn’t matter that the stretch denim feels a little, well, cheap. If the price is right, people will find a way to make the somewhat challenging, super-skinny, ultra-high-waisted cut work. And for some, the controversial skull patch, and custom rivets inscribed with “Over My Dead Body” in Swedish, is just more bang for the buck.

Launched in Stockholm five years ago, Cheap Monday is the result of an extremely tight budget. “We only had enough money for one model in one wash…and a jean jacket,” explains co-founder Orjan Andersson, who also owns Weekday, the bright, white Swedish mecca for skinny jeans, second-hand clothes, and the best obscure Euro brands.

Here, Andersson offers some of his favorite spots around town. “Stockholm is too nice -- that’s why I have so many places,” he prefaces.
