Denim Road-Test: Silver Jeans
Doom Has His Day
Making your acting debut in cult-favorite director Quentin Tarantino’s new flick can do wonders for your cinematic career. Not only that, it can vastly improve your wardrobe. Just ask Omar Doom, the New York City-based man of myriad talents whose denim collection just got a little thicker.
Doom is fresh from the gates of hell – specifically Northern Austin, Texas, where Tarantino is shooting Death Proof, his half of a horror double-feature with Robert Rodriguez called Grind House, set to release next spring. Based out of New York City, Doom has also been writing, recording and performing locally with his band, Alister Doomington, for nearly two years.
Traveling, acting, performing and squeezing in some fun, Doom is in constant flux. So when it comes to fashion, denim proves the most versatile way to stay fresh and look dapper during his adventures. So, we set Doom up with a pair of Silver Jeans, a Canadian company known for its comfortable, yet stylish fits and washes.
In the midst of filming down South, and spending a few days at home in New York, Doom took some time to test-drive Silver Jeans. In his own words:
So, Omar, what’d you think of the jeans?
I was a bit apprehensive when you first came to me, because I’m very particular about my jeans. Once I find the right pair of jeans, I just wear ‘em all the time, everyday, I mean sometimes I don’t even change! Just kidding. I’m the kind of guy who just wears jeans everyday. I’m really rough with my clothing. My clothes need to hold up. However, there’s an elegance to this denim -- it has a raw sensibility to it. Yeah, and I do wear a lot of black…
How would you say these jeans fit into your traveling lifestyle?
For instance, I have to go to an airport three hours from now. I only wear really comfortable jeans or pants when I get on a plane and I’m definitely going to wear these jeans on the plane. They take care of everything; they look cool and they’re really relaxed. They’re versatile -- I can wear them while traveling, to a function or on stage. I’m going to three or four events next week and I’ll probably wear ‘em to each one!
What was it like to spend a “night out” in them?
I went out to this bar called LIT in the East Village on a Friday night. Throughout the evening, I felt really comfortable in them. When I first put them on, I said to myself, “Wow, these jeans are awesome! They’re so comfortable, I’m about to go to sleep in them!”
Let’s be frank here – you’re also in the band, and most musicians are very particular about what they wear on stage. What do you really think of the cut, style and wash?
They look really cool and I love how they fit. I really like the dye of the jeans too, because it’s a cool black-grey. I been looking for a pair of black jeans to wear onstage now for awhile. Now, let’s get serious here, I mean when you’re on stage and all, breathe-ability and move-ability is key. I can show off my rock-star moves!
Are they easy to take off as well?
I haven’t had ‘the test’ of having them ripped off me yet, but I think there’s a great placement of distance from the button to the zipper. It makes it very easy for a girl if she’s looking to really get them off!
