Whether You're a 6 or a 10
DimePiece on Fierce Females and What They'd Take to Mars

It’s not often that you come across a new clothing brand that claims to aim itself at ‘boss bitches dipped in sauce,’ but DimePiece isn’t your average label. Specifically, they take all that girl-power stuff that the Spice Girls used to sing about and crank it up to 100.

Started by two L.A.-based ladies just over a year ago, DimePiece is sassy streetwear for women who want to make a statement… and, in the DimePiece girls’ own words, make people aware that ‘pussy appeal is a natural force that all females control.’ Wow. How could you not love a line with a mission statement like that? Ashley Dime filled us in:

How, when and why did you guys start DimePiece? Is it just the two of you?
We began in winter 2006, but we started being legit about it in early 2007. There’s Laura and myself, and if you look on our website we have a masked rabbit that helps out, too. We all reside in Los Angeles and we started DimePiece for a lot of reasons: we wanted to put our degrees to use, create garments from our point of view and be a positive concept brand for young women. The main reason we created DimePiece, is just because it was about damned time.

What do you think makes a woman a ‘dime’?
A dime is a woman that not only recognizes her potential, but also acts on it. She is self-governing, educated and intelligent. This woman has massive amounts of pussy appeal and embodies all that is sexy and strong.

Are ‘6’s’ and ‘7’s’ allowed to wear your clothes? I don’t think they should be, even though they technically aren’t dimes…
This is the intentional irony of DimePiece. It’s not at all about being 6’s, 7’s or even 1’s. How dense is our society that we rate women by a number scale, anyways? DimePiece is intended for all women. Any woman can be a “Dime,” but she has to recognize it within herself and radiate that to the masses. Does that sound corny? I hope so, because it’s the truth.

Didn’t you guys used to be part of the Brown Babie$ Collective? That whole female creative movement was becoming quite popular. What happened with that?
Pandora’s box has come to haunt us! Just kidding. Yes, Brown Babies was our affiliation at one point. BB$ was a batch of fashion-forward, in-your-face females that were a small force here in L.A. To be honest, it was a really fun time in our lives, and a great thing was created. Laura and myself had other goals that we wanted to reach outside of the Brown Babies. Our intentions and direction became different, so we had to move on.

Describe DimePiece clothing to someone who’s never seen it?
The shit.

What is the ethos behind the brand?
The ethos of DimePiece is growing stronger and more apparent everyday through the women that wear it. They reinforce the idea that we are a brand advocating a positive representation of today’s woman.

What guys would you classify as ‘dimes’?
Our boyfriends. And Laura loves Hayden Christiansen…I still can’t see why.

If you could send a popular piece of clothing, accessory or hairstyle (rope chains, stilettos, high-top fades, etc) to another planet and never see it again, what would you choose and why?
Thank you for asking this. This gives us a chance to make our final plea on this subject. Ugg boots are not only hideous, but they are completely unnecessary. If you're a mush rider, then cool. But girls, really. L.A. doesn’t get that damn cold. Also, mixing past fashions with modern taste is dope. But, when you come across as a duplicate from ‘86, you've gone too far. No need for your Nikes, airbrushed nails, door knockers and crispy hair. Take it to Mars!!!

What’s next for DimePiece?
New designs, exclusive drops, cut and sew pieces, more accounts worldwide and a few secrets you’ll see in time. We’re really just doing us and continually creating.
