Beauty & Purification, From the Inside Out
When it comes to our beauty and health regimen, our first impulse is to think of skin creams and serums– a method of thinking from the outside in. But the answer nowadays might actually be the opposite. Starting from the inside out could be just the key to a healthier, more youthful self, with the help of the most basic element on Earth– water. While the thought of purchasing something that comes free from the tap would’ve been laughable not that long ago, today shelves seem to be overflowing with bottled water options. When it once came down to a preference in taste or the exotic spring from which it was bottled, what makes today’s designer water more than just pretty packaging? Because there seems to be an H20 remedy for any ailment out there, psychoPEDIA put together a list of waters (and purifying devices) that promise everything from weight loss and anti-aging, to cleansing and detox– bodily and spiritually– so you can hydrate your way to health and happiness:
Spiritual Water ($2.50)While spiritual cleansing often means making that painful trip to confession, reaching peace within may now be as easy as hitting the bottle– of water, that is. A series of religiously-themed beverages, Spiritual Water's bottles are complete with Catholic imagery and Biblical scripture, to help the drinker purify body, mind, and soul, all at once. Though it makes no actual promises to cleanse your sins away, with ten different formulas (not unlike the Ten Commandments) including Purify, Defense, Focus, Balance, Control, and of course, "Formula J" (as in Jesus), while the water may not save your soul, it can at least serve as constant reminder for you to be good– while also being good to your body.
Mirror Mirror Pretty WaterLike the character from the famous fairy tale, Snow White, we all wish that the “Mirror Mirror on the wall” could say we are indeed “fairest of them all.” Luckily, Mirror Mirror’s Pretty Water puts us one step closer to finding beauty in a bottle. Enhanced with vitamins and nutrients geared to nourish a woman’s body like calcium, potassium, magnesium, and zinc, this natural spring water not only tastes crisp and clean, but fights premature aging and leads to more radiant-looking skin. Drinking eight glasses of Pretty Water per day promises more beautiful skin and hair, and the product can even be applied directly to the face or used post-shampoo to cleanse off mineral deposits.
BIOTA Biodegradable WaterToting the world’s first “Planet Friendly” bottle, Colorado-based company BIOTA’s bottles are made from corn, making the packaging compostable and bio-degradable, and thus, completely green. Considering the bottles are designed to decompose within 80 days after use, you can drink BIOTA with a clear conscience (pun intended), knowing that it won’t be adding to the world’s growing plastic problem. To boot, as its corn-based bottle lacks the “aldehyde” of traditional plastic bottles which absorb the unpleasant chemical taste, BIOTA testifies to passing the “overnight taste test,” in which a bottle will taste just as fresh the next morning even if left open.

Vitalizer Water ($497)Appearing to be your typical household blender, this mini-tornado-producing device is anything but. Using a method developed from nature itself, the Water Vitalizer uses infrared energy, magnetic fields, and vortexes to create an energized form of water specially named “Hexagonal Water,” which with regular consumption, is said to have health benefits in everything from increased levels of energy, immunity, weight loss, and nutrient absorption. Taking regular tap water, which often possesses too many large molecules for the body to absorb properly, the device transforms the water into a form the body can more effectively absorb, therefore providing the ultimate in bodily hydration.
Skinny Water ($6 per six-pack)A celebrity-certified beverage (fans include Kate Bosworth and Daisy Fuentes), the benefits to Skinny Water are perfectly clear. The Philadelphia-based company, Skinny Nutritional Corp, offers a selection of low-calorie, fat-burner enhanced waters in flavors like raspberry, lemon, and peach, which make this water a tasty way to curb your appetite while getting the hydration your body needs when dieting. With the regular benefits of water plus an added boost, Skinny Water provides an effective and inexpensive way to increase metabolism and lose weight without breaking a sweat.
Beauty Water Shower Purification System ($95) A creation from TV’s own beloved emotional hairdresser,
Jonathan Antin of Blow Out fame, this water purifying shower head is designed to filter water to a level comparable to that of a pure natural spring. As tap water often contains chlorine and other harmful chemicals that can strip color and affect the conditioning of hair, Antin’s water purifier creates a luxurious shower experience not only with its adjustable massage and pressure levels, but by creating high quality water that leaves hair softer, more manageable, and healthier overall. Like a Brita for your shower, not only is it good for your hair and skin, but is probably good enough to drink.
Christian Lacroix for Evian ($9.99 & $1000)While recent days have seen designers and fashion figures pair up with alcohol brands to create exclusive liquors (think Roberto Cavalli Vodka, Karl Lagerfeld for Dom Perignon, and the Terry Richardson-pimped ads for Belvedere) the newest trend in designer collaborations is a much healthier alternative. To give “Spring collection” a whole new meaning, Christian Lacroix has loaned his skills to develop “haute couture” and “ready-to-wear” bottle versions of the most luxurious name in the water market today, Evian, appropriately making its US debut just this past New York Fashion Week. So, whether you like your water custom-fit or straight off the runway, Lacroix water is sure to be the next must-have accessory for high-end hydration.
