HOBOKEN Tokyo Police Club

On a rainy Thursday night, just before midnight, a few dozen fans gathered in Hoboken for an intimate performance by Toronto’s own Tokyo Police Club. After weeks of opening shows for Brit punk rockers, Art Brut, it was the first night the floppy-haired foursome was, as they put it, ‘out on their own.’ At just 19 years old, Tokyo Police Club's Greg Alsop, Josh Hook, Dave Monks and Graham Wright have procured a sound, and an on-stage presence that vastly surpasses their age. It’s easy to imagine the childhood friends breaking basses and severing drumsticks, as they did at last week’s performance, while jamming out in a basement just months past prepubescence. Regardless, the mix has granted them a vigorous charm. All they need now is an expanded song list. (Their enthralling performance left the audience begging for ‘just one more.’ Unfortunately, the only response they could muster was, ‘Sorry, we don’t have anymore!’)
