NYC Monsters Are Waiting

Last month, Los Angeles’ indie radio station, KCRW, showcased several West Coast bands, including city favorite Monsters are Waiting, who performed to a packed, fiery house at New York City’s famed Pianos. Angelic, whispery coos from lead singer Annalee Fery echoed throughout the venue, with band members Eric Gardner (drums), Jonathan “Sweetpea” Siebels (guitar/bass) and Andrew Clark (bass/guitar) rounding up their sweeping ‘80s sound. Reminiscent, yet spinning a fresh take on, The Cure’s pungent bass lines and shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine, Monsters carved a special niche when they played “Ha Ha” and “Fascination.” Yet the real stunner was their cover of Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored” -- proving that the right inspiration often yields greatness.
