D2D Album Review: The Rinse -- The Rinse, Sir?

Longtime NYC darlings -- and our fave Brit-meets-Brooklyn band -- the Rinse emerged triumphantly from their studio sessions with a new EP. Having cut their teeth as a power-pop super-group, touring with the likes of Trail of Dead, Forward Russia!, Maroon Five and more, this four-piece has taken it to the next level with the help of producer Ethan Allen. The Rinse, Sir? sublimely showcases the rollercoaster ride of vocal cords from lead singer Will Bates. (We wonder what he looks like in the recording studio, because there is absolutely no way that Wills can simultaneously open his mouth and not dance.) Pairing the trademarked juicy synths and Ryan Gruss’ tommy gun drumming, the addition of bassist Mex Thomas (and her female vox) has provided a new dimension to the group.

Lyrical teasers such as the First frontal horizontal in ‘Night At the Races’ will snag your attention, and the bouncy Rescue me from my dancing refrain of ‘The Offender’ will have you singing along whether you know the words or not. But it’s their single ‘Out of Her Mind’ where the Rinse really shines. This song's an instant classic -- a heartwrenching tale made strangely uplifting by guitarist James Rickman’s intoxicatingly bittersweet handling of the melody. There's no turning back for this band -- be sure to catch one of their explosive live shows ASAP.
