BROOKLYN Simian Mobile Disco

Just over a week ago, Simian Mobile Disco came to Studio B to unleash fury on the dance floor, fresh off the release of their full-length album 'Attack Decay Sustain Release.' Their tower of equipment took center stage, with strobe lights running from floor to ceiling. As the two popped into visibility, the hushed and reverent crowd erupted into cheers, and from there, the night was turned up to an 11. Ninja from the Go! Team's vox pumped 'On the dance floor I am a world-class freak!' into 'The Beat,' while the confessional chant of 'Hustler' drove the crowd to a fever pitch. Our favorite, 'I Believe,' pulls Simian's former bandmate Simon Lord back into the fold for a bittersweet, longing melody stretched over sensual beats.
Did the crowd ever get restless having to watch two men mussing about with samplers, cords, and computers, as opposed to the traditional formula of sweaty drummers and wind-milling bassists? Not for a second, as SMD know their audience and how to conduct the energy level. On our way out the door someone was emphatically yelling into their mobile, 'Simian Mobile Disco are masters of the universe!' We’ve got to agree.
